Wegmans Astor Place

Image
After several years, Wegmans has landed at Astor Place, 770 Broadway. If you’re a grocery store aficionado in this area, this is Disney World. Here’s the takeaway:   The Sakanaya, Japanese "fish counter" is truly impressive with some decent prices. This fish market will be a draw unto itself. There have been complaints online about how meat centric the store is. Indeed, I found many of the prepared foods to be non-organic, meat based.   There are some good vegetarian and vegan options if you look for them. The gluten free Veg Gyoza was fresh and reasonably priced at $7.00. While the Vegan Mezze Bowl is $14.00, it can be stretched to 2-3 meals. The refrigerated Fettucine is gluten free. The Organic 2% Cottage Cheese with live cultures, at $3.99, rivals the Good brand, regularly $4.99. Looking forward to trying the Three Tree Oat Milk with seeds as a comparison to Trader Joe’s version. The fresh carrot juice was $6.00, expensive compared to Trader Joe’s. but it’s cold pre

The Final Revival of Opal & Nev – Dawnie Walton

Image
The obvious lead-in:   if you like Daisy Jones & the Six plus social justice, you’ll like The Final Revival of Opal & Nev.   One of the more daring recent novels about the imaginary 70’s power rocker duo Opal & Nev. Kind of tropey and fantastical the way each of their backgrounds are represented as is the description of the music biz of their epoch. Yet the VH1 Behind The Music style narration and the cinematic writing make the novel really enjoyable. There’s more than a hint of madness in the details of their dealings, record covers and songs.   Perhaps this canny writer was thinking about Cynthia Erivo and Ed Sheeran for Opal and Nev, surrounded by a strong ensemble cast. Hope so. As for Daisy Jones & the Six: the novel shimmers, while the Prime Video adaptation whimpers.

Another late summer flower burst.
