Freegan-ing A Terra SodaStream

The La Croix of it all!   I freegan-ed a working Terra SodaStream - Terra Soda Streaming Machine, that makes Sparkling Water Maker with a CO2 cylinder.  Eco-Friendly, No Batteries Needed.

This Terra Soda Streaming Machine has clean bottles and a CO2 cylinder with an expiration date.  CO2 cylinders are available for purchase at regular grocery stores meaning it will be good to go making sparkling soda on a regular basis.

I sterilized everything first and the SodaStream seemed to be in good working order. So I filled one of the bottles with filtered water to Soda Stream then pumped the machine. Voila. Sparkling Soda on demand.

You can use fresh, non-pulp juice to add to Soda Stream, so I added juice.  Now, I can make healthier sodas, cane sugar free, I might add, at home, and no longer need to purchase plastic bottles of seltzer.

Worth it.

A Semi-Sustainable Lo-Fi Coffee & Tea Corner for Fall

Image
Turned a tight space into a practical and aesthetically pleasing Coffee & Tea Corner. No room even for a tea drawer. Studying the many online home Coffee & Tea Café visuals was enjoyable and led to some conclusions:   the need to stack vertically, the need for wood, some signage in the form of printed words a la designer Rae Dunn, some interesting looking containers. All that’s missing is a small plant but I won’t do it unless it’s real. As for Rae Dunn’s decline in popularity?   Keep that collection because eventually it’ll be back in style and sellable since everything comes back around again.   Products: Caspari Roll-Up Bamboo Placemats in Black, $20.00 (are smaller but much less expensive compared to Chilewich at $88.00). The placemats will be used elsewhere besides this corner.     Timieeya Tea Bag Organizer - Bamboo Tea Storage With Drawer 3 Layer, Organizer for Tea Bags, $32.99.     You could say this is consumerism. You could ...

Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie (Copycat Hailey Bieber/Erewhon‑Style)

Image
I made the copycat Hailey Bieber Erewhon Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie — with a bumper crop of late‑summer strawberries — and it was actually pretty good. The innovation of the glaze is the hook that makes it popular at Erewhon in LA, where I’ll never visit unless they land in NYC. I skipped the full coconut‑cream cap on top and instead added a splash of coconut milk to the pour. (The rest of the coconut milk became ice cubes for future adventures.) Don’t burn the glaze like I did; a few fresh strawberries rescued it. The seemingly disparate ingredients come together with surprising depth. And congratulations to Hailey on proving, with her Rhode valuation, that she’s not just the Missus. Photo is my version, cleaned up, made with AI. Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie There are plenty of variations online, but here’s a simple breakdown. Core Components Strawberry glaze — fresh strawberries cooked down lightly with a sweetener of choice and a bit of acid until syrupy. Str...

Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Salad 🍅

Image
The more you know:   tomato season in the Northeast runs from late June through October. A healthy twist on a favorite American sandwich that’s in season.  This BLT Salad keeps all the smoky, juicy charm of the classic sandwich but elevates the whole experience — crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and bacon (or turkey bacon) tossed in a savory, jar‑shaken dressing. But the real surprise:   polenta croutons: golden, crunchy, gluten‑free friendly little bread‑replacements that turn a simple salad into a crunchy, creamy delight. Royalty-free image.   Ingredients Salad Base Chopped and washed Romaine or Farmers Market Lettuce 1 large field or heirloom tomato, chopped 4 strips bacon or turkey bacon, broiled or grilled, cubed or shredded (Add more bacon if desired — it’s your salad.) Dressing (Jar‑Shaken & Emulsified) - Mayo or No Mayo Add to a jar: 1 tbsp mayonnaise or vegan mayonnaise 1 tbsp Dijon mustard Splash of red wine...
