An Informal Chat About Jarred Arrabbiata Sauce

Jarred Arrabbiata sauces has been having a moment for a while now. I have dabbled in this trend even converting it to curry sauce.  Italian tomato sauce with a hot kick, it’s an irresistible addition to eggplant parm and pastas. Not here to break down the hype, just recommending a few brands from my Arrabbiata sauce journey.

I’ll start with the lead:  Carbone Arrabbiata sauce. My overall favorite of the non-definitive number of brands I have tried. When this supermarket bottled sauce goes on sale for $7.99, it’s a real deal. Rao's Homemade Arrabbiata Sauce Spicy Tomato Sauce & Pasta Sauce gets the most play. I preferred the Carbone. Maybe the Carbone is less oily?  Not sure, but Carbone, in the jar with the cute illustration, is the crave-worthy one.

The less pricey runner up is from Target:  Signature Arrabbiata Pasta Sauce - Good & Gather.  At $5.99, a deal.  But good luck finding it because it wasn’t available during my last Target run.

This home cook’s tip:  caramelize some onions, blend in the Arrabbiata sauce, add a splash of cream, a cup of vodka optional, heat it up with some gluten-free rigatoni, top it with shredded basil and parmesan.  You can then pretend you are dining at No. 181 Thompson Street, NYC.
