Redbud the Street Tree. Blogger Exclusive!

She comes back every year. She’s survived wind, rain, nasty winters. She has put up with those who mess with her leaves, street people, bottles and gum dumped at her feet, conscientious dog owners, unconscientious dog owners. Smoked on. Sat on.

She welcomes children who reach to touch her leaves on the way to school or camp and the Japanese woman who gently pulled a small branch of hers for Ikebana.

With the help of a gardener, her branches are now finally tall enough to be inaccessible to most.  It’s almost growth season, so she’ll continue to become more formidable, rooted.

Until she next contends with the telephone wires.
