Burlap To Winterize The Outdoor Plants In The Backyard
Fall tasks for the small urban backyard: remove leaves and debris with the leaf blower. Shut off the garden hose before the first freeze. Tidy up the planters. This year, I added a task. This past winter and spring was excessively windy. Everyone with outsized allergies. The winter wind destroyed some of my tough evergreen plants making the sides of the garden look patchy, uneven.
The Tree Guy said
it was okay to wrap the plants in burlap a la the internet for the winter,
giving them winter coats.
The winter is
approaching. I buy some burlap from guess who online. I cut swaths of
burlap for each plant. Time to wrap the plants with zip ties as seen on YouTube. …Never worked
with burlap material before…makes sense to use because it’s breathable. This project went pretty well. Now from the
window this winter, I don’t need to watch the Evergreen plants and the Boxwoods
bend with each gale force wind that comes along.
That it’s
become a predominantly windy climate here, with wind in the spring and fall like
I have never experienced before for the past few years, that no one seems to talk
about, is a story for another day.
