Macy’s Flower Show 2026 Thu. April 23-Sun. May 10

I don’t care how bougie it is, I love the Macys Flower Show. 

This year’s show harkens back to Social Studies Class remembrances, featured are over-sized dolls of women settlers who harvested America, along with sets of plants from different regions of the country. 

A hardcore flowerista (not me) would note, legitimately, the amount of synthetic flowers that dominated the displays, but there was a patchwork theme that was about sewing, rather than the flowers, that somewhat supported it. 

There was a map of the United States in flowers.  The United States of Flowers.  More wayfinding than usual with the sets of regional flowers.  A wall display with each state flower under a flower awning was on point. The enormous knitted-doll figures of the women settlers tending the land were homesteader fantastical. 

Today, there are flower displays around the world that make the Macy’s show seem small.  However, the ingenuity in each year’s Macy’s show remains impressive. Flower power.

One Day Barista Training at the New Jersey Coffee School

Such a special experience and a reminder that most of the time, it’s later than you think.  New Jersey Coffee School at the Monroe Center is closing in Hoboken after a 3-year run. They are now offering on-site training to their hospitality clientele, still a successful business, but no longer serving as a stand-alone training space. I enrolled in Day One of their 3-Day Barista training just before the closing was announced. I have probably done “the 10,000 hours” in food but my experience in beverages is limited.   Specifically, I am looking to purchase an at home espresso maker and taking the class provided me with an overview of the equipment. Coffee’s definitely got its fix on us.   I gained a better understanding of the history of coffee, farming, and the coffee production process, from bean to first sip. Bringing Whatever It Takes dating to group therapy.   Opinions My Own.   Haven’t done a book review in a while. This one is a doozy.   High-strung, disordered, high-achieving professional woman does the Whatever It Takes to get a mate.   While in group therapy.   She believes her ability to connect with all of humanity has been hampered.   Sure.   She finally gets referred to an unconventional counselor who conducts radical transparency group therapy. His prescription: What you need is a witness.   Didn’t dislike the Maximum Cringe Author/Narrator, as many reviewers did, or even question the sincerity of her quest.   But the lovable, eccentric therapist…, off-the-chain concerning, dispensing bad advice, conducting many examples of unethical behavior.
