A Semi-Sustainable Lo-Fi Coffee & Tea Corner for Fall

Image
Turned a tight space into a practical and aesthetically pleasing Coffee & Tea Corner. No room even for a tea drawer. Studying the many online home Coffee & Tea Café visuals was enjoyable and led to some conclusions:   the need to stack vertically, the need for wood, some signage in the form of printed words a la designer Rae Dunn, some interesting looking containers. All that’s missing is a small plant but I won’t do it unless it’s real. As for Rae Dunn’s decline in popularity?   Keep that collection because eventually it’ll be back in style and sellable since everything comes back around again.   Products: Caspari Roll-Up Bamboo Placemats in Black, $20.00 (are smaller but much less expensive compared to Chilewich at $88.00). The placemats will be used elsewhere besides this corner.     Timieeya Tea Bag Organizer - Bamboo Tea Storage With Drawer 3 Layer, Organizer for Tea Bags, $32.99.     You could say this is consumerism. Simple Mills Cinnamon Swirl Muffin & Cake – Oat Flour Baking Mix

Image
For some people, especially Trader Joe’s people, Fall is Pumpkin Season. For me, it’s more Cinnamon Apple. To that end, I tried Simple Mills Cinnamon Swirl Muffin & Cake –Oat Flour Baking Mix – Gluten-Free, Regenerative Organic Certified. The mixing and baking experience was fine. As usual, I did not strictly follow the directions. There’s a separate cinnamon sugar mix to sprinkle in the muffin and on top. I used only half of it:   in the muffin and swirled a little on top. Added half of a Honeycrisp apple finely chopped into the mix. I subbed avocado oil for butter, but you can use oils with this mix per the directions. The muffins are slightly crumbly and dry, good to add the apple, and are more of a coffee cake experience than apple cake. Mine are small, almost like mini muffins; check your muffin tin size. With some fresh apple cider, they’re a Fall baking vibe during a nice chill weekday.

Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie (Copycat Hailey Bieber/Erewhon‑Style)

Image
I made the copycat Hailey Bieber Erewhon Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie — with a bumper crop of late‑summer strawberries — and it was actually pretty good. The innovation of the glaze is the hook that makes it popular at Erewhon in LA, where I’ll never visit unless they land in NYC. I skipped the full coconut‑cream cap on top and instead added a splash of coconut milk to the pour. (The rest of the coconut milk became ice cubes for future adventures.) Don’t burn the glaze like I did; a few fresh strawberries rescued it. The seemingly disparate ingredients come together with surprising depth. And congratulations to Hailey on proving, with her Rhode valuation, that she’s not just the Missus. Photo is my version, cleaned up, made with AI. Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie There are plenty of variations online, but here’s a simple breakdown. Core Components Strawberry glaze — fresh strawberries cooked down lightly with a sweetener of choice and a bit of acid until syrupy. Str...
